| Chandraprabha Sanctuary is situated to the southeast of Varanasi.It was established in may1957. There is Vindhyan forest range in the Chandauli.There are Naugrah and Vijaigarh hillocks. Chandraprabha Sanctuary is spread over these hillocks covering an area of about 78 kilometers.Chinkara and Panther is the highlight of the sanctuary. Different kinds of wild animals are found in Chadraprabha such as blackbucks, sambhar, chital, wild boar, nilgai, Indian gazelle and porcupine. There is also a park where you can see at least 150 species of birds. The reptilian kinds include gharial and python. Asiatic lions are brought in 1958. The numbers of lions are decreasing at present time. |

| Ramnagar Fort lies 14km from Varanasi.It is the ancestral home of Maharaja of Banaras.Maharaja Balwant Singh built this fort place in 18 century.Ramnagar Fort has a museum and a temple within the grounds and the temple is dedicated to Ved Vyasa,who wrote Mahabharata, the great Indian epic. The most important construction inside the fort is the famous ‘Hall of public audience. The architecture of Ramnagar Fort is the finest example of Indian as well as Islamic styles of architecture. Sarnath is one of the most famous pilgrimage places for the Buddhists in Varanasi. The celebrated Mantra, ‘Buddha Sharanam Gachhami’, owes its origin to Sarnath.Buddha got enlightenment in Bodh Gaya, and then he came to Sarnath.He delivered his first sermon in deer park. Sarnath along with Lumbini, Bodh Gaya and Kushinagar was included by Buddha before his death as the four places he thought to be sacred to his followers. Sarnath is one of the most respected Buddhist places. Besides Sarnath is also connected with Jainism. There are many monuments at Sarnath which are divided into two sections. Under section ‘A’ Chaukhandi Stupa and under section‘B’all other monuments at the sites. The Ashok pillar of Sarnath is the national emblem of India. The emperor Ashoka who spread Lord Buddha’s message of love and compassion in his life time. Sarnath was visited by Ashoka around 234 B.C.and he erected a stupa here. |
