Ramnagar Fort-Oldest Fort of Varanasi
Situated in Uttar Pradesh on the bank of river Ganga one of the most famous tourist destinations and Hindu pilgrimage centers of India is Varanasi.It is one of seven holy places for Hindus.Varanasi is one of world’s oldest cities which is called the religious capital of India. Ramnagar Fort lies 14km from Varanasi.It is the ancestral home of Maharaja of Banaras.Maharaja Balwant Singh built this fort place in 18 century.Ramnagar Fort has a museum and a temple within the grounds and the temple is dedicated to Ved Vyasa,who wrote Mahabharata, the great Indian epic. The most important construction inside the fort is the famous ‘Hall of public audience. The architecture of Ramnagar Fort is the finest example of Indian as well as Islamic styles of architecture.
Durbar Hall is popularly known as the hall of public audience which is a main attraction of tourists in Varanasi.A mixture of Indian and Islamic architecture can be seen in the construction of the fort. The fort is made up of the glossy marbles and precious marble stones give the fort an eye catching appearance. The Durga temple and Chhinnamastika temple are also located at Ramnagar.Ramnagar Fort is famous for its splendid and extravagant celebration of annual Dussehra.
